The Lost Ships of the Revolution
February 8 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Dr. John Broadwater of JRS Explorations, Inc., will describe his recent discovery of the remains of a British ship sunk during the siege of Yorktown in 1781. Dr. Broadwater has a long career in underwater exploration. He oversaw salvage work on the Monitor; explored the Titanic as Chief Underwater Archaeologist for James Cameron’s Ghosts of the Abyss; and, for entrepreneur Jeff Bezos, made deep water dives to retrieve the booster engines from rockets used in the Apollo moon program. Dr. Broadwater has been surveying the York River off and on for the past 30 years, helping to locate as many as 40 British ships sunk in its waters. Learn about the siege of Yorktown, the use of high-tech sonar in his latest surveys of the battle site, and plans for future exploration.
